With the high cost of travel these days, vacation packages have become a popular way for travelers to get the most value for their money. These plans can not only save money, but also help many people to avoid the time it often takes to book flight, find suitable hotel arrangements, and rent a vehicle. With the right travel package in place, every traveler can enjoy a full range of benefits that are sure to enhance any and all vacations.

How they work

Each plan of this type shares three main characteristics: they all contain airline tickets, lodging at the destination, and access to rental cars so that the traveler can tour the vacation area. These basic services are all grouped together in a package that enables the service providers to offer discounts that can be as high as thirty percent of the regular cost.

For a package deal to truly be worth the cost, however, a few factors come into play. For example, groups that are planning on visiting one location for more than one or two days will generally realize the greatest benefit from these package offerings. Single travelers who are visiting multiple locations will have a more difficult time finding any significant savings.

How they benefit travelers

These deals are possible because of the unique way in which they are structured. When businesses with different services join together to create bundle plans, they are able to realize substantial cost savings that they can then share with their customers. Those savings are reflected in these package offerings.

There are also many family deals available. These typically include rooms with multiple beds, in hotels that are ideally situated for family activities. Sometimes, families can even obtain suite accommodations at a hotel as part of their plan.

These package deals can also result in additional offers beyond the basics. Many will offer an additional night’s lodging for those who stay for a certain number of days. Others might provide a certain number of free meals, or free tours around the destination area. In some instances, amusement parks and others might work in conjunction with hotels and airlines to provide access to their facilities.

The best feature of all, of course, is the total amount of money that is saved on any trip. Every dollar that is not spent on travel, lodgings, and car rental is freed up for other purposes. That means that the family that saves money as a result of a package offering has that much more money to spend on recreation and souvenirs.

While these deals might seem difficult to find, nothing could be farther from the truth. Many great offerings are available online, as well as at any local travel service. No matter where consumers find their travel package deals, the end result will be the same: more benefits for less cost. Because of that one simple fact, vacation packages which include flights, hotel and more options, will remain one of the best ways to enjoy the perfect travel experience.

When trying to find the best deal on cheap tickets and vacation packages always check the largest travel sites online for great savings and last minute deals on cheap vacations packages and discount flights.

Being prepared for a hike means different things for different people. In fact, preparedness for anything is relative. Having everything you need for a hike in a foreign country is a different story. Imagine being on vacation somewhere in the Caribbean, perhaps Aruba or Jamaica or even the Dominican Republic. Its hot, its humid and the landscape is breathtaking. Back home hiking is a favourite weekend activity, and all anyone in the family usually brings is a bottle of water. Here, in a place where no one knows the trails or what creatures’ one could encounter, a bottle of water is just not enough.

Water is important, but if the hike is taking place in a hot and humid climate then it will be vital to bring more than the usual 500ml bottle of water. Depending on how long the hike is supposed to be, at least a liter of water per person is crucial. Even a small vial of water purification tablets in case more water will need to be collected from a natural source. Juices and sodas are a bad idea for many reasons. First of all, the sugar will further dehydrate the body. Second, the sugar may attract unwanted insects. Third, sugar causes a boost in energy and a crash; no one wants to have a sugar crash when hiking in unfamiliar territory!

Bring a map of the area. Not a city map, a country map that shows elevations and bodies of water. It is important to know exactly what you are getting into and what the planned route will be. If there are park trails, stay on them. Respect the flora and fauna of the land, just as you would expect visitors to do in your parks at home. It rains even in the Caribbean, so a compact packable rain shell should definitely be a part of the day pack. Every hiker is happier when dry, rather than wet. A supply of healthy, high energy snacks is a must. Nuts and dried berries are a good way to start, crackers, fruit and protein bars are also great. They are all easy to pack, small and will provide a welcome boost when everyone seems to have exhausted their energy supply.

Water resistant sunscreen is an absolute must. Apply a new layer every hour, more often if you sweat a lot. The sun is much harsher in the Caribbean, so more protection is necessary. Wear a good hat that covers the neck and ears, loose clothing, comfortable closed shoes – not sandals or flip-flops. A foot injury from thorns, debris or insect bites would be a big problem while on a hike in unfamiliar surroundings. This brings us to the next necessity: a first aid kit. It should contain at least a few bandages of varying sizes, antibiotic cream, antiseptic spray, gauze, a safety pin (for getting stingers and splinters out) and bug bite treatment cream.

Hiking is one of those few outdoor activities that doesn’t require very much to do. There is no equipment, and hiking can be done just about anywhere in the world! All you need is a day pack and a lovely day!

In the first three parts of this series we discovered the beginnings of architecture in civilisation with the existence of the Aztec pyramids. With the arrival of the Spaniards most of the pre-Columbian structures were destroyed and replaced with Baroque style palaces and cathedrals. The Second Mexican Empire saw the influence of French design, but most profoundly in the area of urban planning. Mexico’s first president, Porifirio Diaz, sought to make Mexico City the Paris or London of Latin America. The initial result was a set of buildings designed by Italian French architects, with little to no Mexican influence.

When President Diaz had realized his mistake he made a decree that called for the placement of Mexican hero statues erected in prominent positions around the capital city. This was the beginning of a long tradition of adding historical monuments to public places. As the 20th century approached, more governmental figureheads and prominent artists were encouraging Mexicans to create a unique Mexican style of design. The message was to look at the pre-Columbian era for inspiration, the result was an out-flowing of design that incorporated elements of Aztec geometry, colonial architecture and regional characteristics to form a decidedly unique and genuine Mexican design style. President Diaz would have been proud.

At the beginning of the 20th century functionality and expression were the main schools of design in Mexico. Social service buildings were simple, yet practical and with decoration that spoke of Mayan themes. As with any new and independent stream of design, there is experimentation. For example, architect Felix Candela designed several thin-shelled structures like Church of the Miraculous Virgin in Mexico City. The courtyard of the Museum of Anthropology is a fine case of Mexican modern architecture, designed by Pedro Ramirez Vazquez. These examples are on the modernistic side of Mexican design, with square corners, simple lines and stark surfaces.

The other side of Mexican architecture carries more of a colonial edge, as is evident in Camino Real Hotel in Mexico City. With courtyards and terraces fashioned in the European style, the hotel has a definitive colonial flair, but is adorned with Hispanic colours and geometric shapes. It is a clear fusion of old and new design. There are innumerable examples of this style of Mexican architecture all over the nation, offering a vision of both the past and present.

Mexico’s architecture is not simple, either in its composition or its road to fruition. The people of Mexico have struggled for century upon century for their own national identity, and now they have reached a moment where an architectural identity has begun to be formed. Watch Mexico for its next contribution to the world of design.

The little beach-town of Solana Beach is nestled along the Pacific Ocean’s sandy coast approximately 22 miles north of the San Diego airport. It’s bordered by Cardiff-By-The-Sea on the north, the chic town of Del Mar (and it’s horse race track) on the south, the popular Lomas Santa Fe Country Club on the east and, of course, the sparkling Pacific Ocean on the west.

The climate is near perfect with winter high temperatures ranging from 59 – 63 with abundant sunshine. Summer high temperatures average 74 – 79 pleasant degrees thanks to the refreshing breezes off the ocean. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer with a difference of perhaps 20 degrees. During winter temps vary of 23 degrees between daytime highs and nighttime lows.

This quintessential beach town is a popular for its diversity; here you will find eclectic shops, world-class restaurants, active nightlife, beach sports, nature walks and hiking. An evening tradition shared by locals and visitors is gathering at Fletcher Cove Beach to enjoy the incredible sunsets.

The Cedros shopping district is unlike any other area of San Diego, an “artsy” community of chic and cool, hip and eclectic, touched with a flavor of a European side-street. There is so much here that it can be overwhelming. The Antique Warehouse is a place you will want to see when you have plenty of time. You’ll have a ton of fun strolling through all of the little booths..

Famous in San Diego and throughout Southern California, the Belly Up Tavern in Cedros has a long history of bringing diverse musical acts on an almost nightly basis. It’s been voted the best live music establishment in San Diego almost annually by the media and has even been called “one of the hippest and hottest music scenes anywhere on the California coast” by Rolling Stone Magazine.

On Highway 101 you will find the hub of the commuter rail system. Both the Amtrak and San Diego’s commuter train, the Coaster, have stops at the station giving easy access to all the communities along the coast without having to chance the notorious southern California highway system.

The coastline has cliffs that encroach right to the water’s edge in places, making them practically impassible especially at high tide. Staircases descend the cliffs at practically every street corner so that every part of the beach is accessible vertically. This makes a visit to the beach bit adventurous because one staircase may lead you to a deserted beach where you can be alone with your friends and your thoughts while another may lead to a busy beach teeming with surfers, families and fishermen.

The city was featured on all the cable news networks a few years ago when it became the first U.S. city to ban smoking on public beaches. Since that controversial decision, often led by high-schools clean-ups and rallies, dozens of other California communities have followed in prohibiting smoking on their beaches.

The nationally known Jenny Craig weight loss company has it headquarters here and employs more than 180 people. East of the freeway, Interstate 5, is the newer section of Solana Beach: a country club surrounded by luxurious executive homes.

Beach town lodging options San Diego area include Solana Beach accommodations and Solana Beach Hotels.

Author Hunefeld retired as president of a Solana Beach training corporation in 2006. He now spends his time traveling and flying his Cessna airplane.Hunefeld and his wife own and operate a beach inn.

A caravan park is one of the main tourist attractions in places where tourists go camping. Caravan Park Scotland is a place where you can try a camping adventure for the first time. Camping need not be uncomfortable for you. You can go to pitch places where you need to set up your own temporary lodgings using your caravan home. Families that want to enjoy their stay in a camp go to a caravan park.

What exactly is a caravan? A caravan is another term for a trailer, or a portable home that can accommodate more than one person. It can be used for camping or other leisure activities involving travel. You can go and have fun with your family without sleeping on the ground. These caravans can be attached to other vehicles and brought along on camping tours. The caravan is definitely more dependable than a normal tent when it comes to protecting you from the elements. A caravan can also be used for storing the things you will need during your trip.

Recreation is the main purpose of a caravan. There are so many trailer or caravan designs, and most of these can be found in a caravan rental place. They come in different sizes, but even the bigger ones still retain that bedroom-like feel. The space may seem small, but with proper planning, the whole family can fit inside.

If you don’t have a trailer yet, don’t worry because there are many of these for rent in camp sites. Tourist destinations almost always have rentable caravans for families. You can go to the location and look for caravan rentals.

If you’re not keen on sleeping inside a sleeping bag, then a caravan is for you. If you’re planning on renting, make sure the caravan is suited for your needs as a family.

In Caravan parks, families can rent small caravans to bring along with them on tours to the countryside. Some caravans have been designed for stationary use. Camping near a caravan park is more preferable because some stationary caravans that have been converted into small homes for families on a holiday are big enough to accommodate everyone. Some caravan homes have more than one bedrooms. There’s also a fully functional kitchen and a dining room.

Here’s the details that I would like to give you: Caravans Scotland Static Caravans For Sale Scotland

According to the latest television commercials by Las Vegas tourism authorities, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Surely they are referring to the adventures of small-town business people and girls-weekend attendees who do things far outside of their comfort zone. Let us turn the statement around and consider the happenings in Vegas that work in favour of the traveler. What little known tidbits of information are floating around just waiting to be grabbed by those seeking a bit of an extra lift while in Vegas? Well, we have a few of them here! Take note.

Food and Drink Looking for a cheap steak dinner that hasn’t sat under heat lamps while buffet-addicts cough and sneeze their way to the potato bar? Seek out Ellis Island, located on Koval Street and ask for the ‘secret steak dinner’. It’s not on the menu, so you need to be brave. But it’s worth it. A steak and a beer for fewer than seven dollars is well worth it. Of course, there is also Stage Door, a bar that has beer under two dollars, three dollar bar food and three dollar cocktails; although they are probably the only off-casino place for inexpensive drinks.

Ignore all the gelato kiosks, the prices are ridiculous, plus you can have gelato from the grocery store that will probably taste a lot better and be cheaper. If you are really hard up for a drink, have lost all your cash to the slots; try scoping out guests who are celebrating their birthday with a bottle of champagne. Chances are they will be rowdy and generous, offering a drink to anyone wishing them a happy birthday. It’s tacky, but it works.

Service Many travelers to Las Vegas are opting for a road trip rather than a flight. They have more control over their movements and do not have to be concerned with renting a vehicle or caring for it. Then there is the question of parking. If you plan to stay at a hotel or resort, make friends with the valets. Tip them, get to know them, chat with them. It will all pay off in their care of your car and the service you get. When others are waiting for service, you may be able to skip the line and get your car taken care of before everyone else.

The same is true of housekeepers and waiters. Tip your housekeeper well, and he or she may just be a little more attentive to your needs. If you plan to go to a club, endeavour to meet the lead VIP host. They will provide better service, more flexibility and remember you when you come back.

Las Vegas may be the cheap buffet capitol of the world, but finding that cheap buffet is not a secret – they are everywhere! The secrets to Las Vegas are in bypassing the mainstream tourist magnets and getting to places where only the really wealthy or the really clever can get to. What are your Vegas secrets?

New York City is immense, bewildering, thrilling and just about any other adjective the mind can think of to articulate the fascination that takes over when walking the streets of any of the local neighborhoods. Locations like the East Vi8llage, Tribeca, SoHo or the West Village all offer their own microcosm of NYC living. While many who travel to NYC for the first time are easily swept up in the awe of Times Square or simply get lost in endless romanticism Central Park, the true culture and lifestyle of a New Yorker can be examined much more closely once you move past the well-known, and well-traveled, tourist oriented locations in Manhattan. This is not to say that seeing Madison Square Garden or the New York Public Library is somehow mundane – it isn’t – but on most days, those locations are mostly filled with tourists and not really representative of what life ion NYC is like. Move past the tourist stops and famous landmarks and the there is a much more realistic and authentic view of NYC life unfolding. And it’s well worth experiencing for yourself.

While the island of Manhattan is divided into over 50 different neighborhoods, there are some that offer any visitor a richer experience more than others. Again, this is largely dependent on what your agenda is, what you’re hoping to find and what you want to see, of course, but there are some Manhattan neighborhoods that simply have to be experienced firsthand.

SoHo – Also known as the SoHo “Cast Iron” district, the neighborhood was once the intended location of two elevated highways which were supposed to be arteries of the Lower Manhattan Expressway. Local civic leaders and cultural watchdogs managed to derail this plan and the neighborhood was [preserved. After the highway plans were successfully stifled, SoHo had many empty buildings that had once been used for storage and manufacturing. These large spaces, in particular their upper floors, known as Lofts, were valued by artists from all over the city and were rented and converted to living spaces. The “New York” artist archetype was born out of this transition of the neighborhood from industry to residences. The area officially became known as the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District in 1973. While those large lofts were once the cheapest real estate in all of Manhattan, they would now be valued well into the millions and home to some of the most famous and prolific local artists as well as world famous celebrities. SoHo’s close proximity to Greenwich Village, Little Italy and Tribeca only add to its allure.

Tribeca – The name of this well-known and well-loved neighborhood is actually an acronym – TRIangle BElow CAnal Street. The triangle in question is formation of the three streets below Canal Street; West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. The neighborhood was one of the first residential neighborhoods developed in New York outside the boundaries of the city during the colonial era; residential development started as early as the late 18th century. By the mid-point of the next century the area eventually developed into a commercial center, with an abundance of store and loft buildings built along Broadway in the 1850s and 1860s. Within 100 years, the industrial foundation of the neighborhood has vanished. In the early 70s, the neighborhood and it’s many large, now empty, spaces became a popular location for artists due to the size of the lofts and the relatively cheap rent at the time. With the onset of the 1980s, the area underwent a massive and large scale conversion of most of these previously cheap and huge living spaces and has become today to be known as one of the most desirable locations in all of NYC.

Tribeca was one of the neighborhoods that were devastated in the wake of 9/11, but the government supplied financial aid to resuscitate the area. One of the most well known and loved aspects of the Tribeca neighborhood is the annual Tribeca Film Festival, which was established in the wake of 9/11 to aid the financial long term recovery of the area. Alongside its philanthropic meaning, the festival is also a celebration of NYC as a filming location and creative environment. According to Wikipedia, The mission of the film festival is “to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience.” Tribeca is also known for its rather large amount of celebrity residents (*short list of some, but not all, at the bottom of the article), most of whom can be spotted in the neighborhood going about their daily lives without intrusion. It is also the home to some famous locations:

- The Holland Tunnel

- Hook & Ladder Company #8, a.k.a., the firehouse from the movie Ghostbusters

- Hudson River Park

- The Tribeca Grand Hotel

- Duane Park

*Local celebrity Tribeca residents include: Mariah Carey, Robert DeNiro, Mike D (of the Beastie Boys), Billy Crystal, Daniel Craig, Jay-Z, Scarlett Johansson, Beyonce Knowles, Danny Masterson, David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Meryl Streep, Justin Timberlake, The Edge and Leonardo DiCaprio – to name a few.

Florida is a wonderfully diverse state. The subtropical climate means warmth and sun, but it also means hurricanes and alligators. The world’s third largest coral reef is in Floridian waters, as are the elusive Manatees, Mahi Mahi and hundreds of other endemic species. The people of Florida are just as varied, in culture and ideals. The region is home to some of the country’s oddest attractions, a few of which we covered in the part one of this series. Now let’s continue.

Parisian McDonald’s

In Orlando there is a little fast food restaurant you may have heard of called McDonald’s. The restaurant chain’s brand is fairly well known, showing a gold colored ‘M’ on a red background. Do you know it? Well this normally Americanized establishment has chosen to fashion this location after a French caf. The iconic Big Mac is called Le Big Mac, French fries are Les French Fries and a few unusual items added to the menu. Italian Amaretto Spumoni and Portobello Eggplant are just two to choose from. There are even rumors circulating that the staff speak French!

Boat n’ Trailer Racing

Move over Monster Truck Rally and NASCAR, the trend in Florida is Boat n’ Trailer Racing! In Bithlo, Florida there is a specialized track on which drivers hitch their loaded boat trailers to any vehicle they can find and run amok on the track. Tricks and crashes are the name of the game, the bigger the better. After the boat trailers have been cleared, it is time for the school buses to arrive. Not for transporting convicts back to prison, the buses also race around the tracks! Skilled drivers race their buses in various directions creating surprisingly concise figure 8 patterns on the asphalt. It is truly a sight to behold.

Gibsonton

Gibsonton is a little town off the beaten path in the northwest region of Florida. There aren’t any big amusement parks or animal reserves here, in fact the place is quite drab. That is until people begin to go about their daily business. During the days of the traveling circus Gibsonton was the main town for carnival sideshow performers to spend their winter. Such infamous performers as the Lobster Boy, Siamese Twin Sisters, Monkey Girl and the Anatomical Wonder lived and worked in the little community. Since the area had unique zoning laws, animal tamers were permitted to keep their exotic animals on their front lawns. In 2000 the census reported the Gibsonton population as just over 8700, with an unusually high number of little people.

Oddities in Florida are most definitely plentiful, and there are many theories put forth trying to explain why. The most popular one seems to put the blame on migrants from the wild west state of California. There may be some truth in that, but most likely there are several factors at play. For example, the Parisian McDonald’s is a marketing ploy. Gibsonton gained its out of the ordinary status simply through the migratory habit of traveling performers. When you visit Florida, enjoy the odd and the weird. Marvel at it. Even bring a little weirdness home with you!

Waikiki is a community in Honolulu, Hawaii. Waikiki Beach is famous for its length and beautiful white sands meeting the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. The name “waikiki” means “spouting fresh water” in Hawaiian, as the region was separated from the interior of the island by numerous fresh water springs from the mountains. During the 19th century Waikiki was a vacation spot for Hawaiian royalty. The conditions on the beach were perfect for surfing, plus one of the favourite recreational pastimes of the royal family was long board surfing; so it was the ideal retreat for them.

As related in the above paragraph, Waikiki has been a tourism hotspot for hundreds of years. So it will come as no surprise that the first hotels began to pop up on the beach during the 1880′s. The first resort was established in 1893 by a Greek-American gentleman who leased a guest house and renamed it Sans Souci, or Without Care in French. The little resort house really began to gain popularity after noted author Robert Louis Stevenson stayed there in 1893. Undoubtedly most people are well aware of the large number of resorts in Waikiki today, numbering in the dozens. The skyline is full of private residential high-rises, resort hotels and palm trees.

Many people from all over the world visit Waikiki Beach each year for the same reasons the Hawaiian royal family did: the surfing. A large portion of the beach is cordoned off specifically for those who wish to surf without disturbing or endangering visitors who just want to swim. The waters stretching out from the land are quite shallow and there are many underwater rock formations. Those rocks combined with a windy day, produce the long rolling waves surfers dream of.

Unfortunately, those same conditions have contributed to the gradual erosion of the beach. Since the 1970′s city planners and engineers have been making attempts and looking for ways to stop or at least slow the erosion. One such project involved importing sand from deltas in the area to build up the beach. The plan is meant to widen the beach by 1700 feet, a measurement that would restore the beach to its 1985 size.

Clearly the history of Waikiki is rooted in its landscape. Sure the skyline is hugely different than it was 300 years ago, but the beach is still there, the surfing conditions are still there, the climate is still tropical and the palm trees still sway in the ocean breeze. Visit Waikiki Beach and see what surfers are crazy about!

In part one and two of this series we discussed the early history of the Florida region. Since the days of discovery in the 1631 the land on the panhandle has experience nothing but war and bloodshed. By 1920 things had settled down, national economy was prospering and people were beginning to travel to Florida for its warm climate. Then disaster struck once again.

In 1926 the Great Miami Hurricane (category 4) touched down in Florida, devastating the city of Miami, parts of the panhandle, Alabama and the Bahamas. Then two years later came the Okeechobee Hurricane. It first touched down in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and traveled up the Florida panhandle. As a category five hurricane, the Okeechobee was the most intense to hit landfall in the US killing 2500 people. To add insult to injury, the people of Florida experienced a period of profound poverty when the Great Depression hit in 1929, and it was almost instantaneous. The economy of the state relied heavily on the raw materials market, so when the stock market fell businesses could no longer trade. Citrus fruits sat and rotted, costing farmers hundreds of thousands of dollars. People once again migrated away from the state in search of work, but just as they were leaving more people from other states would arrive in Florida also seeking jobs.

Other areas of the country experienced brief periods of economic relief, but the country as a whole did not see a recover until the mid-1930′s. Unfortunately Florida had to wait until the early 1940′s for any kind of relief. The build-up for the United States entry into World War II finally brought industry to the panhandle once again. Geographically, it was a great place for military bases and training. The climate was becoming more attractive to vacationers, especially with the increased availability of air conditioning. The effect of a prolonged economic depression in Florida meant the cost of living was much lower as well, so overall it was a destination for many Americans.

One important characteristic of Florida that does not fit into its history of survival is the existence of differing ecosystems. There are the oceanic coastlines, the forested uplands, the forested wetlands, watersheds, the everglades, river systems and of course the many marine ecosystems. The subtropical climate enables various areas to thrive in warm and wet condition at sea level, as well as elevated dry areas. The Atlantic coast of Florida is very fortunate to be home to the third largest coral reef in the world. Referred to as the Florida Keys, it is strictly protected within the Florida Keys National Marine Society.

Hundreds of endemic species of birds, mammals and marine life find their home in the Florida Keys as well. On the Gulf of Mexico side of the panhandle one will find a different kind of natural environment. Three National Forests span northeastern Florida, all home to species such as the American Alligator, Florida Black Bear and the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker. Manatees are common in the waters off the western side of the panhandle, as are dolphins, Loggerhead Sea Turtles and Marlin.

There is so much more to the Sunshine State than its warring past, hurricane watches and history of slavery. Watch for part four and find out just what there is to see and do in Florida.
