The pressures of having so many people relying on you, having so many decisions to make, having to always be strong&#8230;.it has to be a lot. But they know they have a job to do, and somewhere in their minds they believe that they are the best people for that job. That is what makes them leaders.</p>
<p>You have to be a people person if you want to be a leader; leaders can&#8217;t just lead themselves. They have to know how to communicate and interact with their subordinates. A king who treats his subjects well will enjoy many years of long and successful reign. A king who doesn&#8217;t will shortly find himself walking to the gallows. At least that&#8217;s how it was back in the day.</p>
<p>It is important for a leader to have a system of beliefs to lean on; that is why many political leaders are devout religious followers. Whether it is religion or contemporary philosophy, an unchanging set of standards gives a leader that support he so desperately needs when dealing with tough judgment calls. It is like a spine; without it, a man just flaps around aimlessly and can&#8217;t walk or sit up straight.</p>
<p>A leader must never be anything less than his best before his followers. Subordinates cannot see their leader falter or show uncertainty. When such faults are put on display, it is hard for leaders to sustain their followers&#8217; faith in them. To avoid this, a good leader always save his moments of weakness for his confidants and puts on the brave face at all other times. He must think quickly and always be sure of his actions. Even when he isn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>Sometimes life takes us into the morally gray area and it&#8217;s next to impossible to know what the right path is. People who can choose a path and live with whatever the consequences may be make strong leaders. They decide what the best course of action is for themselves as well as the people they lead.</p>
<p>Close-mindedness is never a tasteful trait in any human being, least of all those in leadership positions. Being secure in your ways means you can listen to the input of others, know your path is right, and be able to communicate how and why. And, if you are actually wrong, listening to the words of another can illuminate your mistakes and potentially save you from disaster.</p>
<p>Lastly, leaders have to be able to take a stance and stick to it. People want someone of great conviction to lead them, usually because they don&#8217;t possess that conviction themselves. A leader can&#8217;t be irresolute.</p>
<p>A lot goes into the pot when cooking up a good leader. There is no perfect recipe, and it varies from person to person, but one thing can be certain. Leadership is about shouldering responsibility and making the best out of what you have. Do that, and you can&#8217;t go wrong.</p>

<p>In 1948, Wooden accepted the empty coaching position at the University of California, Los Angeles. At the time Wooden accepted the coaching job in California, UCLA hadn&#8217;t had much previous success. In reality, they were thought of as among the the weakest teams within the Pacific Conference. Many felt the addition of Wooden would have not much impact on the team. However, they were quickly proved wrong. In Wooden&#8217;s first year as coach, UCLA went 22-7. The next year, the Bruins compiled a 24-7 record and won the conference title.</p>
<p>They would proceed to get the title again in 1952, 1956, 1962 and 1963. However, it wasn&#8217;t until 1964, nearly sixteen years after Wooden was appointed, that the Bruins would win their very first title. Not only did they win the title, but they accomplished it in perfect style, winning all the games they took part in that year. The Wooden-led Bruins would win the title again in 1965.</p>
<p>From 1967 to 1973, the Bruins amassed 7 NCAA basketball title banners for their stadium&#8217;s rafters. No team before, or after, the UCLA Bruins of the late 1960&#8242;s and early 1970&#8242;s has ever been capable of matching such a historical run of prominence. The fact is, you will be hard-pressed to uncover any team, from any sport, to match the success that the Bruins had during their run.</p>
<p>1974 was the first year in seven seasons that the Bruins failed to win a championship. Nonetheless, between the &#8217;73 and &#8217;74 season, UCLA established an NCAA record by winning Eighty-eight consecutive games.</p>
<p>In 1975, in Wooden&#8217;s final year, the Bruins once again returned to the national spotlight and seized their final championship in the Wooden era. At the end of his career, John Wooden had amassed 885 wins and produced an .813 winning percentage.</p>
<p>Wooden never spoke with his teams about winning or losing. Instead, he only spoke on making the effort to win. He was not as focused on the end result of the games he coached, as he was with how his players managed themselves. All Wooden desired from his players, was that they give the team their best possible. With 10 titles over a 12-year time period, I&#8217;d have to say that that philosophy paid off pretty well.</p>
<p>To see about the life and principles of a man who was so respectful but still found a whole lot of success was incredibly inspiring for me. Wooden had such a tremendous affect on his players and on the people around him. It&#8217;s interesting, because, while Ive never been in John Wooden&#8217;s presence, you can feel what those who did encounter him must have felt, simply by reading through some of his work. No matter the compliment he gets from former players and rival coaches, it is made plainly clear in his writing that he was a man of incredible ethics. The legendary coach is definitely one of the better success stories in the world of sports.</p>
<p>The legendary coach, nicknamed &#8220;The Wizard of Westwood&#8221; was perhaps one of the greatest coaches in all of sports. His style of leadership is still being copied today. For instance, are they eating the right foods? Being given the best education? You probably even wonder if you are spending enough time with your child. But as any parent knows, a huge battle with any toddler can be bed time.</p>
<p>Your child is exactly the same.  In fact, young children are more prone to anxiety than adults.  Children can be very disturbed when they are broken from their normal routines.  Because of this, kindergarten can sometimes require patience and leadership from the parents. The first day of kindergarten is extremely scary for your preschooler. They don&#8217;t know what to expect; they are forced to trust a new adult (their teacher) and to interact with kids they likely don&#8217;t know.</p>
<p>If your youngster is asking you to go to bed or is falling asleep during their bedtime story every night, you may want to try and extend their sleep schedule. Young children may fight you ever night at bedtime telling you that they are not sleepy at all. But what they are verbally telling you and what they are telling you with their body language are two different things. With that said, if it takes them more than 30 minutes to fall asleep every night then you may be putting them to sleep too early. </p>
<p>Take your child to his school and allow him the opportunity to meet his teacher and see his classroom. Even over the summer months, most teachers would be willing to meet with you. All schools have open houses; do your best not to miss it as it will allow your preschooler to meet the other students as well. Also try to get a class list of other new kindergartners at the school, call the parents and set up play dates. This will help your child adjust and make some new friends as well as give you an opportunity to meet some other parents who may be nervous as well. </p>
<p>Kindergarten does not have to be a time full of anxiety, do your best to lessen that anxiety in your child. Be sure to allow them to talk to you about any fears or concerns they may have and try to answer any questions that he may have.</p>
