Today, instances of home burglaries are on the rise across the country. No community is completely protected from unwanted intruders. Protecting your family and valuables from burglars should be a top priority not for just intruders, but also from such hazards as fire, flooding, carbon monoxide, etc. One way to secure your home is to install an alarm home security system.

There are many types of home security systems available that offer a variety of features and functions. The choice will depend on your needs and your security requirements. There are alarm security systems that can include video surveillance, alarm alerts, flood, fire, and smoke, and carbon monoxide detection, and more. These systems are designed to detect and scare off potential intruders by sounding an alarm. As well, there are alarms that will go off in the event of a fire, flood, etc. A complete alarm security package will provide protection for different types of emergencies and you can even get systems that send alerts to your mobile phone.

Security alarms that detect movement are a key feature that most homeowners want in their security system. There are security systems that provide effective protection for the entire home. For example, you can get a system that detects a window breaking, door opening, and it can detect movement within the home. Motion detectors are a popular feature included in many systems. As well, you can get motion sensors included in outside surveillance cameras that will recorded movement. If there is an intruder moving around outside the home an alarm will go off or the lights will automatically turn on. You can even get driveway alarms.

When you shop for a home security system, you should decide what features you will need and your budget. You can often get a system where you pay a monthly fee or you can get a system where you pay the total cost upfront. There are security installations for certain security systems that may require a professional as there may be intricate wiring needed to be done, and there are systems available that are easy for the homeowner to install. There are also wireless security systems that can be accessed online so you can check on your property and home via the internet when you are away. There sophisticated and comprehensive security system solutions available from security alarm companies that provide 24/7 alert monitoring by security staff. If an alarm goes off, someone from the company will call to see if everything is okay. You will usually provide them with a password as verification that you are actually the client they are talking with.

Home security systems can include such features as a smoke/heat sensor system where an alarm will sound if heat and smoke is detected. They can also include a Carbon Monoxide Detector which detects the carbon monoxide is a very dangerous gas. Sensors that detect breaking glass, opening doors, excessive moisture, and temperature increase or decrease, can be included in a home alarm security system.

Unfortunately, the world is a much more dangerous place. It has become necessary to install security systems to protect the family from indoor hazards and unauthorized intruders. A home alarm security system gives homeowners peace of mind knowing their family and home are protected 24/7/365. As well, because there are different types of security systems available, it is easy to find an alarm security system that meets your security needs and budget.

These Montreal security systems provide the right solutions to protect your entire house for selected rooms. Since 1988, we served across North America with many alarm systems Edmonton to suit your needs.

These days everybody is anxious about the security of their homes and rightly so! According to official American government figures, the number of house burglaries has increased by nearly ten percent in the last five years to about fourteen million per year.

That is a lot of homes. I was burgled ten years ago and I have studied and done my best to never be one of those statistics again. In this piece, I will pass on some of my home security tips on how to make your home unappealing to thieves.

The first thing to consider is whether you have anything in your garden, shed or garage that will help a burglar get into your home. Things like ladders, crow-bars, screwdrivers, sledge hammers. If you do, then lock them away. Keep the shed and garage doors locked at all times. If you have a ladder that will not go in the shed or garage, chain and padlock it to a brick wall, so that nobody can make use of it to get in.

Never believe that your home is less at risk just because you or someone else is inside it. Some burglars are crazy and it is easier to ask someone where the money is than to try to find it yourself. It is easier to demand the keys to the safe than to break the lock. I know. thieves came into my house while I was at work. They saw my safe, but could not get into it, so they came back three nights later when I was at home. It was truly not pleasant.

Do not put a spare front or back door key under the mat, a flower vase or near-by rock. Thieves expect people to do that and it is the first place they look. If you are thinking about leaving a key with a neighbour, pick your neighbour carefully. In fact select the family well. Does the family have teenage kids? If so, could their friends learn that that ‘spare key’ is to your home? Do you trust all the friends of that children? Do you even know them?

Beware of people you do not know. I do not mean be fearful, but someone asking to make an urgent call because of a ‘breakdown’, could be casing your house or sizing you up. If you want to help, make the call for them or direct them to the nearest public telephone booth or a shop.

Keep all your doors and windows locked. If reasonable locked closed, while you are away from the house, but you can get window-stay locks so that you can lock a fanlight window open a few inches too. This is very helpful in the summer or if you have animals. Lock upstairs windows as well – your neighbour may have a loose ladder that a thief can use.

Do not display your valuables needlessly. Video recorders, DVD players and even the TV can be put in cabinets. Jewellery should be put in a box or a safe. Cash likewise. Your house is a home, not a presentation case to would be thieves.

My last home security tip to make your home unappealing to burglars is to stay alert and to warn your neighbours of any slip-ups they are making too. If you can raise the general awareness of crime in the people around you, everyone will be a lot more secure.

Home security is a mammoth issue, but this is nothing new – it always has been an issue for parents and home owners. The problem is that family structure has altered. Not so long ago, people had much larger families and mothers or grandmothers were at home to look after the kids. With six, eight or even ten kids in a family, the house was never empty so burglars did not have a lot of opportunity. There was more social cohesion too, so criminals were loath to steal from their neighbours. So they attacked shops instead.

However, shops and other businesses started using electronic burglar alarms as the prices came down. These security units were so effective that burglars turned to stealing from people’s homes, which is made easier by the fact that the kids are in school and the parents are at work all day. American federal statistics indicate that domestic burglaries are up almost ten percent since 2004. So, what can you do to put off a burglar?

If your residence is left unoccupied for a large part of the day because your children are at school, nursery or a baby-sitters’ and you are at work, consider getting some home help or joining a neighbourhood watch scheme. If you had a cleaner coming and going, it would afford some activity to discourage thieves.

Becoming a member of a neighbourhood watch would convey to your neighbours that you are worried about security and they will keep an eye on your home while you are out. Get your self a dog too, although be conscious that they can be easily poisoned, if the crook has access to them..

Fit an electronic surveillance system. This could be a monitored or tape set-up. Monitored is the best. An added bonus to a surveillance set-up is that you can be certain what your baby sitter gets up to while you are out too. You can turn it off when you yourself are at home or just leave the outside cameras on.

Another additional benefit with a home security system is that you can get a panic button connected to the system’s main external siren and strobe light. If you are set upon or worried, you can activate the alarm by pushing a button on a device that you can wear around your neck. They can also be built into watches and brooches. These personal panic buttons are useful for the elderly and single women providing peace of mind to those living alone.

A monitored surveillance system will also warn you if your house catches fire while you are asleep or out or if someone is prowling around your backyard. Often the operator of the system will phone the emergency services as well after they have alerted you.

A good surveillance system can be used as a bargaining chip with your insurance broker to gain some hefty discounts on your premium. If you have a small business that you operate from home, you may be able to off-set some or all of the costs against your business too and a good home surveillance system can increase the selling price of your house, because it makes it that one step more complete, like having uPVC doors and windows and a timber deck.

Even those lucky few people born with great talents still require training to bring out the best in them.

Even those lucky few people born with great talents still require training to bring out the best in them. Some people feel like they don’t need to be trained, like they can figure it out on their own – maybe even think that there is some inherent value in learning for themselves.

It may seem like private investigating is an easy job. Far from it – although books and movies may make it seem straightforward (and lucrative) the reality is not nearly so pleasant. Remember, what you may see in the literature or on film is just the interesting, exciting parts; and every job has aspects like that. It’s the rest of the work, the day to day grind, that you really want to be concerned about.

What do you really need to become a great private investigator? What is it you need most, that training can provide? The answer is four things:

1) Experience – People say that experience is the greatest teacher of all. Experience is the best thing that you can get from private investigation training. Many people say that they can acquire the skills and the knowledge necessary to be a good private investigator on their own. However, you need experience in order to hone that skill and knowledge into an effective tool.

Books can teach you the theory, but private investigation training helps you put that theory to the test. In private investigation training, students are shaped into the great private investigators they are meant to be. Another importance of experience arises from the fact that most potential clients today look for experienced private investigators to handle their cases. Many private investigation cases are very delicate and need experienced investigators to take care of them.

2) Contacts – It is often the case that PIs establish their first contacts during private investigation training. This is because of the fact that this is an essential part of the training. Private investigators cannot produce facts and information out of thin air. They need to find reliable sources that can provide information discreetly.

Through private investigation training, a PI will learn how to find potential sources and how to persuade those sources to part with important information. Private investigation training will teach students how to properly show respect to the sources in order to continue a professional relationship.

3) Skills – Everything you’ll need to be a private investigator or bounty hunter you can learn through training, and a lot of the things you’ll learn you might very rarely use – but these skills can really bail you out when they come up. It’s a bit like learning how to swim – sure, you might avoid water your whole life, but that won’t help you if you if your basement floods!

Private investigation training will also help students learn how to take full advantage of their environment. They will learn how to use their surroundings to suit their purpose. They will learn to improvise and how to adapt to their various situations and overcome the odds.

4) Law – This is one of the more sensitive issues. Private investigators often have to do the same work as policemen, particularly when employed as bounty hunters, but they don’t have any of the authority or rights that policemen do. This can often be a problem, as it seems like there may be no way to solve a case legally. However, proper training in the legal issues involved will allow you to do so with the minimum of trouble.

If you want to become the best private investigator, just as if you want to be the best at anything, training can help. Someone properly trained will always do a better job than an enthusiastic amateur, and if nothing else the training will let you figure out whether private investigation is what you really want to do.

The Security Industry Authority or SIA require all front line security guards and door supervisors to undertake specialist training courses so that you can get a licence allowing them to work within the security market. Those applying to get a licence enabling them to perform inside the security sector need to need to very first show that they have attended and passed the related SIA instruction course.

SIA training is essential on each legal grounds and safety grounds as at some point or one more, these operating as security guards or door supervisors are probably to come in to conflict with a single or far more folks. Being able to safely and professionally resolve and include such conflicts is an important a part of the SIA coaching course.

Just before the introduction of SIA licensing, door supervisors or ‘bouncers’ had a under favourable reputation, with some becoming considered as small far more than hired thugs. Wages were low and staff training was practically non existent and as a result, the function of a door supervisor was more of an interim job instead of a career choice. Thankfully because the introduction of SIA licensing, door supervisors have gained a significantly increased reputation due to appropriate coaching and clear guidelines.

To be able to qualify to get a door supervisor’s license from the Safety Industry Authority, one must be over 18 many years of age, pass both an identity examine and a criminal records verify and have accomplished the acceptable SIA instruction course. For door supervisors, SIA teaching involves a conflict management module and a physical intervention expertise module, at the same time as ‘common’ and ‘core’ modules.

The ‘common’ and ‘core’ modules involve the fundamentals and fundamentals from the function. This contains becoming conscious from the law, wellness & safety, fire security awareness and emergency procedures such as evacuating a building. In addition, training in drugs awareness, licensing laws, arrest, recording incidents and crime scene preservation is also covered.

Regarding conflict management and physical intervention, the SIA training involves learning how to avoid conflict and therefore reducing personal risk, defusing conflict without resorting to physical intervention and learning from conflict; as some situations are easier to resolve the second time around. Physical intervention, commonly known as ‘fighting’ is probably the most important part of the SIA’s door supervision courses as this teaches door supervisors how to disengage these in physical conflict without causing injury or pain, and how to escort people off the premises also without causing injury or pain.

It goes without saying just how important these latter two modules are, as improper physical intervention could result in an assault charge, which would also mean loosing ones SIA license and their profession inside the sector. These days, the once thuggish bouncer is a highly trained and fully qualified individual and an essential asset to pubs and clubs up and down the country.

Everybody worries about the security of their homes and families. The question is: how can you make your home safe without turning it into Fort Knox? The sad fact is that, if someone is determined to get into your home, they can and will. Ten years ago, my home was ‘safe’, but I was tricked into opening the door and I let my attackers in. No home security system can safeguard against situation like that.

Burglars look for homes that seem vulnerable. Most burglars are opportunistic. In other words, if they see an open door or window or if it is obvious that no one is at home and if there is no noticeable security, then it is worth them attempting to get in. Open gates are also an incitement. So are valuable possessions put on show in windows.

It only takes minutes to steal something, you would be surprised. I let two armed robbers into my house and they timed 15 minutes to take everything of value in my house and then a car stopped outside to pick them up. It was night time and I was tied up. It could have been a taxi, which would not have aroused my neighbours’ suspicion.

It is important to show people (opportunistic thieves) that you have a home security system of some kind. If you cannot afford a good, working alarm system, get a dummy siren box with a flashing light. It is not as good as a real system, but it would take a courageous or desperate burglar to find out, which means that you cannot tell anyone at all, in case it gets out.

A home security system is well-worth the money you will spend on it. The anxiety of being burgled or even held up, like I was, will make you wish that you were more security aware. But it does not stop when the burglars leave. Then the police come and I spent from midnight until 4AM at the police station. I had to go back at least a dozen times after that. My insurance company had dozens of queries and it took four months to get a disbursement.

I felt sure that the burglars knew me, and I felt threatened everywhere I went for months. I could not stop glaring into people’s eyes to see if I could recognize my intruders’ (they had masks on, but I saw one man’s eyes). My life has altered drastically. I even moved out of my house the next day and never went back again.

As I said before, I had a good system in place, but I had turned it off as soon as I got home and opened the front door to my intruders. My suggestion is to get a wired or wireless home security system and, if you can afford it, get a monitored home security system with at least one surveillance camera, but preferably one on each external wall and one inside in the hall.

Get contact sensors for all external doors and vibration sensors for every windows. Put a personal panic button by all external doors and have garden lights that are switched on by motion or body heat outside. Keep your system switched on and be very wary of who you open the door to.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with wired home security systems.

Whether it is protecting a parking area or just one space, car park barriers are the most common items used. Because there is a wide market for these units, manufacturers offer stationary and mobile designs. The mobile units are generally used for single parking areas and the stationary models are commonly found in parking garages or toll booths.

When a person wants to deny vehicles access to an area they bring in a car park barrier for restriction purposes. The units are commonly used in areas such as high rise building underground parking areas. Along with the multiple locations manufacturers offer quite a few different models available as well.

Parking structures generally use a boom model that has a guard that extends horizontally. The controls are usually located inside a booth of some kind and operated by a guard or attendant. In some cases the boom is replaced by a gate assembly that provides additional protection against illegal access.

When it comes to protecting a personal parking area a person can purchase a mobile parking barrier. These unique little items are designed to keep visitors from gaining access to a designated parking space. There are a few different versions including manual and remote controlled models also there is a solar parking space model.

Another feature that comes standard on personal blocking systems is a burglar alarm. This item is designed to protect the owner from having the unit stolen while they are away. Also the automatic models come with remote controls that allow the driver to remove the block from the convenience of their vehicle.

With all of their uses having car park barriers available allow companies to keep their garages secure. Also event planners can keep control of parking areas by using mobile units to help improve security. The industry itself is continuing to improve and manufacturers are adding new designs all the time which appeal to all types of individuals.

From industrial estates to private secure homes it may be worth considering investing in Car Park Barriers from drbsafetybarriers.co.uk or visiting the www.palletgates.co.uk web site

When you register for any SIA training program or an SIA license, a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) report will be ordered. Background check ups could be done periodically or when candidates are on their training course.

Employers need to run these checks on their employees on a regular schedule in accordance with SIA standards, so maintaining a clean record is necessary even once you’ve started operating in the security industry. As security personnel are faced with delivering safety, security and protection for companies, assets and individuals, they are held to a higher standard when it comes to their past along with their existing activities outside of work.

Any drug charge, including possession of an illegal substance or possession of paraphernalia can result in disqualification from consideration as an SIA licensed security officer. Other criminal history or pending criminal charges may also have a detrimental effect on your eligibility to operate in the security industry.

The kind of charge, amount of time since the charge happened, whether or not there was a conviction and any remedial or time served will come up with being approved for an SIA license.

Possessing a criminal convictions doesn’t automatically disqualify you from consideration for being employed in the security field. Any records present may require additional assessment and review before a resolution of your eligibility can be made.

The SIA official website has helpful, online application which can help you see if a criminal convictions may cause you difficulties. The tool however, is merely an indicator and therefore does not guarantee the same outcomes when you apply officially for an SIA license or SIA training programme.

Convictions in your juvenile record, convictions overseas, along with problems in your application, together with any past treatment for psychological or mental illness can also be a reason why the SIA may take a close look at you and your history. Yet again, though, none of these items would mean an automatic disqualification from being employed in the security industry. They’re simply additional items of checks in terms of further overview of a candidate.

If you’re concerned about your eligibility for SIA license, we advice to visit the SIA website, using their online analysis tool. It is completely confidential. It will only give you an indicator of potential eligibility or ineligibility. For an absolute answer to your question, you need to submit an official application for a license or visit a security training centre approved by the SIA. Only with these official and formal channels will you understand for certain if your criminal history will prevent you from obtaining an SIA license.

Sometime in your life you may be required to attend court, this might be as a witness, suspect or jury member and depending on the case you might encounter criminal forensics experts. You may not know what criminal forensics is or what an expert might be. You will witness who can use one and how many there are in court. You could even be inspired and decide you want to be one.

Science is an ever evolving discipline which requires knowledge of various areas. When used in the investigation of a crime it can be very specialized. The evidence is examined in the laboratory and then can be used to provide evidence for the police or in court.

Evidence which is used in court can occasionally require explanation. The people who are asked to do this are often people with years of experience and qualifications. They are often published professionals and who are members of relevant institutions who can also provide you details of known experts.

Whether it is the defence or prosecution in a trial a witness can be requested to further explain evidence which is part of the investigation and trial. If a jury is needed to make a decision about someone’s guilt or innocence it is important for the court to make sure that they understand the evidence that is there to help them decide.

Considering that there are always two sides to any story it may be necessary to obtain professional opinions on evidence from both the defence and prosecution, it is unlikely that one witness will be sufficient to provide the opinion for both sides.

If you gain some qualifications in a crime or forensic area, years of experience in an environment where you might have handled evidence and presented it in court, and perhaps even been published you may already have the necessary elements for becoming an expert.

There are scientific principles which are used within instances where crime has occurred, and once an individual has become competent and experienced they may be considered experts. Evidence sometimes requires further explanation in court and therefore the judge or other members of the court case can invite one or two to give their opinion on the evidence. If you would like to become one then you might want to look at what you need to do in your own career to get there.

CY4OR are criminal forensics experts and provide a range of services for businesses and organisations in the UK.
